Human Example:
From the time that we are born we learn through imitation and the examples of others. At first we learn through the lead of our parents and siblings, then as time passes we also began to copy the examples of various other individuals in our lives. These extra examples in which our societies youth can learn from or come from a number of different place such as neighbors, church officials, friends and teachers. Through this process of imitation not only do we learn such things as language and physical skills. We also learn more dynamic things such as how to treat others, how to treat ourselves and how to answer the question of " What should I do?" when we are faced with less then perfect situations.
According to Johann Christoph Fredrich von Schiller, " An imitative creature is man,... whoever is foremost leads the herd." As stated earlier there are a number of different individuals who are outside of a child's imitate family who children look to for examples. One of the most prominent "outside" individuals in the realm in which a child can take from are, teachers. As teachers we not only lead the students we teach in academic and intellectual subjects, we lead our students through out all different aspects of their lives. The list of life aspect in which we lead our students in is a list that is never ending and always changing. A few examples of these aspects we lead our students in are relationship, social interaction self esteem and body image issues.
In our society aside from our youths parents we as teacher help shape them for the furore. Thus because we play such a vivid role in their development we must try to try best of our abilities to provide an appropriate example. There are number of different ways we as teachers can help provide an appropriate example for our society's youth to imitate off of. However I believe that one of the best things we can be an excellent example in for our youth is respect. Through showing respect to the others around us, to our self and to our students we will provide the them with an appropriate and healthy example of how to interact with other which they can carry on with them for the rest of their lives.
Unfortunately not always is an appropriate example available for a youth individual in our society able to imitate. The following video show some examples of how children learn through imitation and how the wrong example can affect a child in the future.
We as teacher are given the great honor and responsibility to be the educators of the future and if the statement of "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery" then we need to give an example to our students which is worthy of flattery.
