Ch 14. What Can the New Teacher Expect?by: Anna Guzman
Starting their career is for most people one of the most exciting and energizing periods of their lives. For most young people it represents their unofficial entrance into the adult world. They are often in a new environment with new people and challenges, and they have real responsibilities. This is especially true for new teachers. For many, the transition into full-time teaching is relatively easy satisfying. For others, however, the first year is a struggle. Some new teachers are shocked and disappointed by their initial experience of being a teacher.
Although prospective teacher may think that schools will hold few surprises, being on the other side of the desk is a very different experience and can produce a sense of culture shock.
Administrators play an important but often confusing role in the life of the beginning teacher.
Although fellow teacher are an enormous source of learning and support, they can sometimes be a source of difficulty.
New teachers learn much about the job in which they are supposed to be experts: instruction.
Some of the most intense satisfaction and disappointment confronting new teachers come from those they came to help: students.
Working with parents can be surprisingly complex and is rarely what the new teacher has anticipated.
Beginning teachers can follow specific strategies to mitigate problems and heighten their chances for a successful career start.
Teaching invariably has hidden sweetness and secret joys.
In this next video you can see different teachers giving different type of classes and you can see what they expect of their students to do.

Chapter 12: How Should Education be Reformed? by Kira Diestler
The framework for this reform was developed in consideration of the motivations for said change. The three are: To evolve a democratic citizen, who recognizes the difference in schooling considering social class. Also to develop a good worker, while keeping education up to pace with the quickly evolving world of work. And to develop a good person, which will help a student develop an individual moral compass as opposed to the student seeking only personal gain. These encompass the foundation and motivation to reform schools today.
Next are the elements of reform that should be instilled in the education practice. Many policy makers (that parents and educational policy makers both have goals toward) is a call for excellence. We all want our students and children to excel and be the best. That said, those concerned seek accountability, usually in the form of standardized testing. Teachers, school districts and students are required to meet a certain criteria within those tests. Another very important element is lifelong learning to help students understand that it is in their best interest to be enthusiastic learners. This means teaching students how to use their brains effectively. We must teach our students how to grasp these concepts to ensure that they may carry these skills with them throughout their lives.
Although there is much debate about school reform (whether it be how, or what, or whether it should happen at all) those in favor of reform outnumber the ones who seek no change at all. Given that, many current reform initiatives have been taking place in our government, and they are evolving everyday. Our world is an ever changing place. Education should be able to prepare our young for the world that they will encounter after they graduate.

CH. 13 Leaders in Education by Neyda Blaine
There will be no free rides, no excuses. You already have two strikes against you: your name and your complexion. Because of those two strikes, there are some people in this world who will assume that you know less than you do. *Math* is the great equalizer...When you go for a job, the person giving you that job will not want to hear your problems; ergo, neither do I. You're going to work harder here than you've ever worked anywhere else. And the only thing I ask from you is ganas. Desire.
The first time I saw this movie I was in junior high. I personally loved it because the teacher really believed that his low-achieving students would succeed. I also believe that a teacher who loves to teach can make a difference in the lives of many students. It would be nice for many teachers to think that all students have the potential to succeed.

Chapter 8- What are the Ethical and Legal Issues Facing Teachers By. Jacqueline Borboa
From the time that we are born we learn through imitation and the examples of others. At first we learn through the lead of our parents and siblings, then as time passes we also began to copy the examples of various other individuals in our lives. These extra examples in which our societies youth can learn from or come from a number of different place such as neighbors, church officials, friends and teachers. Through this process of imitation not only do we learn such things as language and physical skills. We also learn more dynamic things such as how to treat others, how to treat ourselves and how to answer the question of " What should I do?" when we are faced with less then perfect situations.
According to Johann Christoph Fredrich von Schiller, " An imitative creature is man,... whoever is foremost leads the herd." As stated earlier there are a number of different individuals who are outside of a child's imitate family who children look to for examples. One of the most prominent "outside" individuals in the realm in which a child can take from are, teachers. As teachers we not only lead the students we teach in academic and intellectual subjects, we lead our students through out all different aspects of their lives. The list of life aspect in which we lead our students in is a list that is never ending and always changing. A few examples of these aspects we lead our students in are relationship, social interaction self esteem and body image issues.
In our society aside from our youths parents we as teacher help shape them for the furore. Thus because we play such a vivid role in their development we must try to try best of our abilities to provide an appropriate example. There are number of different ways we as teachers can help provide an appropriate example for our society's youth to imitate off of. However I believe that one of the best things we can be an excellent example in for our youth is respect. Through showing respect to the others around us, to our self and to our students we will provide the them with an appropriate and healthy example of how to interact with other which they can carry on with them for the rest of their lives.
Unfortunately not always is an appropriate example available for a youth individual in our society able to imitate. The following video show some examples of how children learn through imitation and how the wrong example can affect a child in the future.
We as teacher are given the great honor and responsibility to be the educators of the future and if the statement of "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery" then we need to give an example to our students which is worthy of flattery.

Chapter 8: What are the Ethical and Legal Issues Facing Teachers? by Coral Tigert
As the English poet John Donne once said, “No man is an island”; therefore everyone on this planet has some kind of connection with his or her fellow humans. The systems of ethics and laws are a critical part of these connections. Ethics, the code of morality by a specific group or person, and laws, written rules that members of a society must follow, make civilized society and coexistence between people possible. It is a teacher’s responsibility to convey to their students the essential moral message that we are all legally and ethically bound to each other. Ethics and legal obligations are incorporated into teachers’ work every day.
In dealing with issues involving ethical judgment, teachers need to demonstrate six characteristics: appreciation for moral deliberation, empathy, knowledge, reasoning, courage, and interpersonal skills. With appreciation for moral deliberation, the teacher needs to see the complex moral dimensions of the problem and appreciate that care must be taken to protect the legal rights of all parties. The teacher also needs to be empathetic by feeling what the others in an ethically troublesome situation are feeling. A teacher needs to have impeccable knowledge to effectively deal with ethical issues; meaning he/she needs to be able to formulate reasonable approaches to the problem and from experience, anticipate the consequences of each approach. To go along with knowledge, the teacher needs to have sufficient reasoning skills to reflect systematically on an issue. In reasoning, the teacher will move through the issue step by step and compare a specific event or action with some moral principle and come to a conclusion. To act on ethical issues, a teacher needs to be courageous. Anyone can feel, know, and reason but it takes courage to take action on those feelings, knowledge, and reasons. Finally, the teacher needs to be able to use interpersonal communication skills to act with sensitivity.
These six characteristics are vital for every teacher because not be a day will pass in our teaching careers where we will not be faced with ethic and legal setbacks.
Chapter #6 What Makes a Teacher Effective? by:Yesenia Quijada
What should effective teachers should know and be able to do. An effective teacher needs more than just stand on front of a group of students and start talking about the subject, they must continually make decisions and acts on others, they must have knowledge on what theorical knowledge does a effective teacher needs, Personal practical knowledge, which teaching skills are required, and what subject-matter knowledge does the effective teacher need.
A teacher’s role can be described as one of a reflective decision maker. Some of the particular decisions that an effective teacher makes or will make, dividing them into three basic stages: planning, implementing, and evaluating. Teachers aspects of reflective Decision Making helps teachers make more effective decisions.
A teachers attitudes depends a lots on the way their students are going to be. A teachers attitude toward self- understanding need to know and understand their students, as the same time it depends on the teachers attitude toward parents.
Teachers can be effective in many ways, the only thing they need is to really want to be a teacher, not ignoring students, wanting to make a difference in someone else's life, having good communication, helping them when needed, and realize that they all have different methods of learning.
